Phillies Release Outfielder Odubel Herrera, righty Jeurys Familia
Outfielder Odubel Herrera and right-hander Jeurys Familia were both released by the Philadelphia Phillies.
Wrighty Ryan Sheriff is also outright for Triple-A. All three players were named for the assignment earlier this week.
This is the second time within the past year that the Phillies have officially parted ways with Herrera, after
he last rejected his $11.5M club option and then reneged on him in March for only $1.75M. was signed. It
looks like today's release will end Herrera's run at the organization after more than seven years, as Philadelphia
is undoubtedly hoping that business deadline acquisition could be the long-term answer in the
Brandon Marsh
Center field. Herrera hit .238/.279/.378 over 197 PAs this season, seeing time in
center field and left field.
After signing a one-year, $6 million free agent
contract
with the Phillies, Familia was also struggling, with a 6.09 ERA in 34 innings.
